The AP Japanese Language and Culture Exam is approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes long and has two parts — multiple choice questions and free response questions. Each part of the exam (listening, reading, writing, and speaking) is worth 25% of the final exam grade.
The multiple choice section contains 70 questions, lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes and consists of 2 parts (Part A: Listening and Part B: Reading). Part A contains 30-35 questions and lasts 20 minutes. Part B contains 35-40 questions and lasts 60 minutes.

The free response section contains 4 tasks, lasts 45 minutes, and consists of 2 parts (Part A: Writing and Part B: Speaking). Part A contains 2 tasks and lasts 30 minutes. Part B contains 2 tasks and lasts 15 minutes.
